Berenice Abbott (1898-1991) war eine amerikanische Fotografin, die durch ihre einzigartigen und präzisen Schwarz-Weiß-Porträts und Landschaftsaufnahmen bekannt wurde. Geboren in Springfield, Ohio, begann Abbott ihre Karriere als Fotografin in New York City, wo sie die Porträts von vielen der führenden Künstler der 1920er Jahre aufnahm. In den 1930er Jahren war sie an einem revolutionären Projekt beteiligt, das als "Changing New York" bekannt wurde. Sie machte Fotos von Straßen, Gebäuden und den Menschen, die sie sah.
Abbott war auch für ihre Porträts von Wissenschaftlern bekannt, insbesondere Physiker Albert Einstein, den sie 1939 porträtierte. Abbotts Fotografien wurden in vielen Galerien und Museen ausgestellt, darunter das Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Abbott war auch Autorin des Buches "A Guide to Better Photography", das 1941 erschien. Sie lehrte Fotografie an der New School for Social Research und der Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Berenice Abbott starb im Alter von 93 Jahren in Maine.
