Information about Hendrick Goltzius


Hendrick Goltzius wurde am 1. Januar 1558 in Middelburg, Niederlande, geboren. Er war der Sohn eines Kaufmanns und einer Lehrerin. Sein Vater starb, als Hendrick zehn Jahre alt war. Hendrick Goltzius erhielt eine fundierte Ausbildung in den klassischen Fächern Latein, Griechisch und Geschichte. Goltzius begann im Alter von 14 Jahren mit der Ausbildung zum Kupferstecher bei dem berühmten Künstler Cornelis Engelbrechtsz in Leiden. Er blieb dort für neun Jahre und erlernte die klassischen Techniken des Kupferstechens und Kupferdrucks, bevor er 1583 nach Haarlem umzog, wo er für zwei Jahre als Kupferstecher arbeitete. 1585 kehrte Goltzius nach Leiden zurück und gründete dort sein eigenes Kupferstecheratelier. Er stach auch schnell einige berühmte Kupferstiche, darunter seine berühmte Darstellung von Adam und Eva. Er wurde als einer der besten Kupferstecher des 16. Jahrhunderts angesehen. Goltzius zog es jedoch vor, seine Kreativität auch in der Malerei und in der Graphik zu entfalten. Goltzius entwickelte auch eine einzigartige Handschrift und eine einzigartige Technik des Stechens. Er bevorzugte auch großformatige Kupferstiche und schuf viele der bedeutendsten Kupferstiche des 16. Jahrhunderts. Seine bekanntesten Werke sind „Der Triumph des Satans“ und „Der Triumph des Bacchus“. Goltzius war auch ein begabter Zeichner und Maler und er erhielt 1590 eine Anstellung als Hofmaler von Willem of Orange. Er schuf viele Porträts von Familienmitgliedern des Oranier-Hofes. Er wurde auch für seine religiösen Gemälde bekannt, darunter das berühmte Triptychon „The Crucifixion of Christ“. Seine Kunst war eine Mischung aus antiken Stilen und niederländischem Naturalismus. Goltzius blieb bis 1630 Hofmaler des Oranier-Hofes. In den letzten Jahren seines Lebens reiste er häufig und schuf gefeierten Kupferstiche in ganz Europa. Er starb am 30. April 1617 in Haarlem. Sein künstlerisches Erbe ist ein festes Fundament für die niederländische Kunst des Goldenen Zeitalters und er ist einer der bedeutendsten Künstler des 16. Jahrhunderts.
