Jackson Pollock wurde am 28. Januar 1912 in Cody, Wyoming, geboren. Er wuchs in Los Angeles auf und machte im Jahr 1930 seinen Abschluss an der Manual Arts High School. Pollock begann seine künstlerische Laufbahn als Schüler des berühmten Malers Thomas Hart Benton, der ihn unter seine Fittiche nahm und ihm beibrachte, die amerikanische Folklore und seine eigene Vision der Kunst zu kombinieren. Pollock begann, sich zu einem gefeierten Künstler zu entwickeln, und erhielt 1938 ein Stipendium für den "Works Progress Administration Federal Art Project". Im selben Jahr wurde er Mitglied der "American Abstract Artists" und begann zu experimentieren und neue Techniken zu entwickeln. Pollock war immer auf der Suche nach einer neuen Form der Kunst und entwickelte schließlich die Technik des "drip painting", bei der er Farbe auf eine Leinwand träufelte und sie dann mit seinen speziellen, improvisierten Pinseln in verschiedene Richtungen schob. Pollock wurde im Laufe der Jahre zu einem sehr angesehenen Künstler und erhielt viele Auszeichnungen, darunter den "Guggenheim Fellowship" (1946) und den "American Prize for Painting" (1948). Er erhielt auch internationale Anerkennung als Künstler und wurde auf der Biennale in Venedig ausgestellt (1952). Pollock ging weiterhin seiner Malerei nach, bis er im Jahr 1956 bei einem Autounfall starb. Sein Werk hatte einen großen Einfluss auf viele Künstler und ist bis heute sehr beliebt.
