The authenticity of this work has kindly been confirmed by Ms. Sibille Gross, Berlin. provenance: estate of the artist - Charlotte Kucharski und Minna Behrendt, Stettin (1933) - Josef Stieglitz Gallery, Tel Aviv. - Estate of Mrs. Mira Werthammer. exhibition: Katalog der 48. Ausstellung der Berliner Secession, März - April 1925, Nr.316 mit Abb. (Aus meinem Fenster, Pastell) explanations: The pastel belonged once to the estate of the artist. The back of card board shows the estate label with the number 741. The pastel is listed in the inventories of the estate of the artist under number 741. The pastel was inherited in 1933 by Charlotte Kucharski und Minna Behrendt, who lived in Stettin (today Szczecin in Poland). The pastel was painted during the midst 1920s. It shows the view from the window of the artist’s atelier. One can see the Nollendorfplatz in Berlin, the square, where Lesser Ury lived since the beginning of the 20th century till his death in 1931. The pastel was first shown 1925 in Berlin. It was part of an exhibition of the ”Berliner Secession”, an association of artists in Berlin. Lesser Ury was a member of that group of artists.
