America and Africa; started Rifle Clubs at sea in Merchant Service, 1908; Captain and Adjutant 10th (S) Batt. Loyal North Lancashire Regiment; Major, 194; Served European War, at first 2nd in Command of Warwicks; later on in Railway Transport Establishment for five months; 2nd in Command 1st & 7th Batts, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment 1915; commanded in succession 9th, 8th, and 2nd Batts, R.
