1916 Armband A '1916' poplin armband in green and gold, as worn by 1916 veterans at a commemorative parade, inscribed rear 'Got from Capt. Sean Cullen in Rotunda 1935, Ml. Giffney, F. Coy, 2nd Batt. 1916'; and a 1916-22 Club membership card, green cloth-backed card, issued to Ml. Giffney of North Wall (Dublin), 1922, receipted. The armband is very scarce. (2) * The 1916 armband was the first decoration given to veterans of the 1916 Rebellion. It was awarded at a ceremony held at the Rotunda Rink, Dublin, on Sunday 21 April 1935 to mark the 19th Anniversary of the Rebellion. This armband was worn by Volunteer veterans with civilian attire on ceremonial occasions, prior to the introduction of the 1916 medal which was struck on the 24th January 1941 and presented to Volunteer Veterans of the Easter Rebellion. * For further reading see White & O'Shea, ''Irish Volunteer Soldier, 1913 - 23.''
