Beschreibung:

One of the most gifted and influential automobile engineers of all time, Vittorio Jano was not only in charge of Alfa Romeo’s Grand Prix racing programme in the 1920s, but also the designer of its road cars. This happy state of affairs resulted in the latter emerging as some of the most exciting of their day, establishing the Milanese marque’s reputation for producing sporting driver’s cars second to none. Logical derivative of the Tipo 6C 1500, itself directly descended from Jano’s successful Grand Prix-winning P2, the Tipo 6C 1750 arrived in 1929 boasting a derivative of the 1500’s six-cylinder engine enlarged to 1,752cc. Built in single-cam Turismo and twin-cam Sport (later renamed Gran Turismo) variants, the 6C 1750 was an exciting fast touring car combining light weight with sparkling performance, more than 75mph being attainable, depending on coachwork. Plates affixed to this car’s engine indicate that it is a Tipo 6C 1750 Gran Turismo sold by Alfa Romeo concessionaire R Flamini in July 1932. The present owner purchased the car in September 1965 when it was fitted with a body similar in style to that of an Austin-Healey 100. The accompanying buff logbook shows that it was registered as a rebuilt vehicle in 1954 with the registration mark ‘UTN 912’, its first owner being listed as Rea Bros, of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and gives the chassis and engine number as ‘10914702’, corresponding with a 5th series 1750 Gran Turismo manufactured in 1932. The car was dismantled in the 1960s by the vendor, its body discarded and the engine components protected by coatings of oil and grease. It was assembled earlier this year and is offered for sale as a rolling chassis. Sold strictly as viewed.
