Beschreibung:

The Peugeot 302 was a mid-weight saloon introduced in 1936 at the Paris Motor Show by Peugeot and sold until 1938, essentially a shortened version of the 402 model with a smaller engine. The aerodynamic 402 model was well received by the market but it was larger than the Citroën Traction Avant which had rewritten the rule book upon its release in 1934, and which during the later 1930s acquired a range of different engine sizes and wheel base lengths. The 302 faithfully followed the style of the longer 402 complete with a sloping front grill behind which the headlights were positioned. An attractive detail was the starting handle hole on the lower part of the front grill which passed through the middle digit of the'302' badge inscribed patriotically in blue, white and red on the grill. In addition to the saloons, a small number of special bodied variants were produced including a Darl'mat built 302 roadster and a cabriolet incorporating the automatic fold-away steel roof design patented by Georges Paulin in 1931. First registered in the UK on 1 st April 1999, this 302 saloon is finished in dark red coachwork with Bordeaux red cord cloth interior. This charming French saloon is in excellent condition and according to the vendor is absolute joy to drive. Understood to be mechanically superb, the body is also in fine order and these cars are very rare both in the UK and in Europe. The 1758cc 4 cylinder engine starts easily and settles to an even idle as the engine warms and the three speed gearbox is easy to use and has synchromesh so one can always make the most of the cars power and is easy to operate in traffic. Featuring many period accessories including a vase in the passenger compartment and head lights set into the front grille, the design of this car could easily be mistaken for that of a far more expensive French coach built art deco style car of the period. Supplied with a history file including a full UK V5 registration document, current MoT road test certificate valid to April 26 th 2011, a copy of the owners handbook and copy of the original wiring diagrams, this spectacular streamlined Peugeot is fine addition to any collection and superb value for money.
