1938 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Signed Baseball With Babe Ruth Brooklyn Dodgers team signed balls from 1938 featuring Babe Ruth's signature are quite rare as he was only with the club for a few months during his last season in professional baseball. The "Babe" joined the Dodgers as a coach in the spring of 1938 and it marked his first and only return to Major League baseball after his official retirement in 1935. Ruth was a tremendous drawing card for the talent starved Dodgers that season and the Brooklyn front office made sure he kept a very high profile. Not only was Ruth appointed first base coach, (where the fans would be sure to see him throughout the entire game), but he was also ordered to take pre-game batting practice with the club so the fans could once again witness the "Sultan of Swat" hitting a few balls out of the park. Ruth soon tired of the "side show" atmosphere, however, and officially hung up his jersey for good in mid-season. The creamy-white ONL (Frick) baseball is signed in blue ink by 18 members of the 1938 Brooklyn Dodgers including Babe Ruth on the sweet spot (9/10), Durocher, Cuyler, Haines, Butcher, Camilli, Campbell, Hassett, Hudson, Koy, Pressnell, Rogers, Shea and Tamulis. Ball comes with its original Spalding box. LOAs from PSA DNA and JSA.
