Beschreibung:

1946-47 Leon Day Contract to Play Winter Ball in the Puerto Rican League Contract Hard throwing Hall of Fame pitcher Leon Day starred in the Negro Leagues and Puerto Rican Leagues in the 1930's-1940's. Appearing in seven All-Star games and known for pitching without a windup, his peers considered Day equal to Satchel Paige. In 1946, pitching for the Newark Eagles, Day won three out of four meetings against Paige. "Leon was as good as Satchel Paige, as good as any pitcher who ever lived. But he never made any noise. Leon was never the promoter Satchel was," observed Hall of Famer Monte Irvin, a former Negro and major league standout. The Puerto Rican League served as Day's off-season home, and he also dominated south of the border, setting a Puerto Rican record of 19 strikeouts. This 1946-47 contract for the Santurce club, signed by Day, is to pay him $75 per week, plus room & board and traveling expenses. The condition is excellent with minor wear and creases from folding. LOA from PSA/DNA.
