Sous l'influence de Max Hoffman, importateur officiel de Mercedes-Benz aux Etats-Unis, la marque a développé cette " petite sœur " de la 300 SL, privilégiant le confort sur le sport. La 190 SL reprenait la suspension indépendante à ressorts hélicoïdaux de la berline 180 Ponton. Elle fut équipée d'un sobre et moderne 4 cylindres de 1.897 cm3 développant 105 ch, couplé à une boîte mécanique à 4 rapports. Son élégance combinée à un comportement routier sain et une finition de qualité ont permis à la 190 SL de connaitre un vrai succès. Le véhicule présenté est exceptionnel à plus d'un titre. D'une part, il s'agit d'un des derniers modèles de 1955, livré neuf en Allemagne et d'autre part, elle a bénéficié d'une restauration totale en 2006/ 2007 en Hollande par le spécialiste des Mercedes, Van Dijk, d'un coût total de 62 000€. Livrée neuf le 21 février 1956 par l'agent Mercedes de Mannheim. En 1968, elle est acquise par un américain de Bogart en Georgie qui la conservera jusqu'en 2006, date à laquelle le propriétaire actuel en fait l'acquisition. C'est cette année-là qu'il entreprend la restauration complète. Depuis la fin des travaux, cette 190 SL est toujours entretenue par celui qui l'a restaurée, Van Dijk. Son état est très impressionnant tant la qualité est au rendez-vous. L'épais dossier présenté dans une boîte est composé du 'workshop manual' original, les factures complètes de la restauration et de l'entretien très régulier et l'historique. Bref, il s'agit d'un très bel exemplaire, prêt à passer l'été sur les routes ensoleillées. It was delivered new on February 21, 1956 by the Mercedes agent in Mannheim, and acquired by an American from Bogart, Georgia, in 1968, who kept it until 2006, when the current owner acquired it.
