Austin-Healey was established through a joint-venture arrangement set up in 1952 between Leonard Lord of the Austin division of the British Motor Corporation and the Donald Healey Motor Company, a renowned automotive engineering and design firm. Austin-Healey cars were produced until 1972 when the 20 year agreement between Healey and Austin came to an end. Donald Healey left the company in 1968 when British Motor Holdings was merged into British Leyland. Healey joined Jensen Motors who had been making bodies for the 'Big Healeys' since their inception in 1952 and became their chairman in 1972. The Austin-Healey was developed by Donald Healey to be produced in-house by Healey's small car company in Warwick. Healey built a single 'Healey Hundred' for the 1952 London Motor Show and the design impressed Leonard Lord so much that a deal was struck with Healey to build it in quantity at Austin's Longbridge factory and the car was renamed the Austin-Healey 100. Manufactured as a righthand drive car, this Austin Healey spent its' early years in South Africa and was repatriated back into the UK in 1999. The current vendor has owned UXG 197 for the last nine years and service records are available for the last 15 years with some of the original South African paperwork is also included in the history file. Having always been garaged since returning to the UK, this Healey appears to be in largely original condition, remarkable given it is 57 years old. Finished in Cambridge Blue with blue interior and supplied with the side screens and a tonneau cover. The fastidious owner has enjoyed owning this BN4, confirmed by the excellent condition the car is presented in today. Supplied with a V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until 1st May, 2015 (with no advisories), this delightful Austin Healey 100/6 also benefits from an overdrive unit on the gearbox. A real performance car of the day.
