Beschreibung:

The German Messerschmitt, built in Regensburg by the aircraft company which had made its name a household word in World War II, was a bold attempt at providing exciting economy motoring and a transition from motorcycling to motoring. A single cylinder, two stroke, Fichtel & Sachs 200cc engine was fitted in the Fend-designed three wheeler bubble car whose design reflected its aircraft ancestry with tandem seating and a steering half wheel. With a top speed of 62mph the KR200 was indeed exciting motoring as the four speed gearbox had an electrically operated reverse gear giving four speeds in reverse too! Although made in cabriolet form the "bubble" version is the most charismatic and this example is delightfully presented in yellow livery. It appears to be to original specification in all major respects and the hinged ‘bubble’ top is a more recent but correct replacement. The Messerschmitt had a special place in the Collection as the only three-wheeler, (sidecar outfits excluded), but it was considered to have a closer affinity to the motorcycle enthusiast and therefore worthy of display. It is offered with old style log book, confirming first registration in February 1957, and a Swansea V5 document.
