1958 MORRIS MINOR CONVERTIBLE Chassis No. FCA 41 05732 Engine No. H64143 Red with red vinyl interior and black soft top Engine: four cylinder, in-line, pushrod overhead valve, 948cc; Gearbox: four speed manual with synchromesh on top three ratios, central change; Suspension: torsion-bar independent to front, semi-elliptic springs to live rear axle; Brakes: four wheel hydraulic drum. Left hand drive. The Morris Minor was the first production car designed by the great Alec Issigonis; between 1948 and 1971 more than 1.5 million of them were produced, initially with side valve engines and 'split' front windscreens. In 1953 came the Series II which, with other improvements, was given British Motor Company's famous and long-lived 803cc A-Series engine and in 1957 the capacity was further increased to 948cc. Combining perky good looks with a lively performance enhanced by a crisp gear-change and well-judged gear ratios, the Minor was regarded as one of the best handling small family cars in its day. The four seater convertible was by far the most fun way for a family to enjoy the open air in one of England's iconic vehicles and we proudly offer this delightful left hand drive example. With so many of these having succumbed to the perils of rust, it was serendipitous that a British car enthusiast discovered this car in the 1980s in the dry state of Arizona, and he consequently embarked upon a thorough restoration of the vehicle. Such was the quality of the work, that upon completion the owner showed the car at a variety of concours events and it has since proved to be both reliable and fun on the open road. Finished in a deep red exterior, offset by whitewall tires and with complimentary red vinyl interior, the vendor describes this as a beautiful example that is well sorted mechanically, nicely detailed and ready for use. WITHOUT RESERVE
