The manufacture of Morris's Oxford cars, named by W R Morris after the university town in which he grew up, would turn Oxford into an industrial city. The Series III Oxford was updated for 1957 with a new fluted bonnet and small rear fins and an optional two-tone paint scheme all of which was announced on 18 October 1956. Inside the bench seats trimmed in leather remained but the instrument cluster was revised, and a new dished steering wheel fitted. The engine now produced 55hp following an increase in compression ratio though the top speed and acceleration remained the same. A semi-automatic, two pedal, ‘Manumatic’ transmission with centrifugal clutch with vacuum operation coupled to gear changes was optional. Independent front-suspension with forward torsion bars continued to promise ‘above average comfort’ for the car's occupants. This good Morris Oxford Series III Saloon was restored in 1994 and featured in a couple of television series, The Bletchley Circle in 2012 and Grantchester in 2014, before being purchased by a specialist television and film vehicle hire company in 2018 to be used in the 2019 Elton John film ‘Rocketman’ and in this year DC Comics television series Pennyworth. Finished in dark green over light green with dark green interior this Morris Oxford is supplied with a UK V5C registration document and an MoT test certificate which expires in November 2021. With only 36 of these models left on UK roads, very few become available at auction and this is a great opportunity to buy a car with some entertainment pedigree.
