The XK 150 is the ultimate expression of Jaguar's XK series. Introduced in 1957, it continued until superseded by the E-type in 1961 with some 9,382 examples being built of which only 2,172 were lefthand drive "open two seater" models. Increasingly "civilized" with creature comforts, the cat's claws were still evident in the increasingly powerful dual overhead camshaft six-cylinder Jag engine. The roadster version is the rarest XK 150 model, now with rollup windows and thorough weather protection to make it the ideal vehicle for a day's enjoyment or a long trip through variable weather but still retaining the traditional roadster's window sill dip and top that was fully enclosed when retracted for an especially attractive profile. The XK 150 was the first production Jaguar to be fitted with 4-wheel disc brakes, building upon Jaguar’s experience with the disc braked C- and D-types. The high performance XK 150 was the “S” model that featured a new straight-port head and three 2” SU carburetors. Introduced with the XK’s standard 3.4 liter displacement, the XK 150S was rated at 250 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 240 lb-ft torque at 4,500 rpm. A new 3.8 liter engine with 4mm larger bore was introduced in late 1959, upping the rated output of the S to 265 horsepower at 5,500 rpm while torque went up to 260 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm. The 1959 Jaguar XK 150S Roadster offered here was restored in the 1970s, before its acquisition by the present owner. It left Jaguar as a 3.4 liter but during the restoration the engine block was replaced with the block from a 4.2 liter 1968 E-type that was modified to 3.8 liters. It also has an aluminum E-type oil pan but still uses the original 3.4 liter XK 150S cylinder head (VS1336-9) with three 2” SU carburetors. It also has an E-type 4-speed transmission, but comes with a 1959 Jaguar 3.4 engine and 4-speed with overdrive to return it to proper factory build. The present owner acquired it in Texas in the 1970s with the intention of restoring it but the project was never begun and the Jaguar has been stored for the last 19 years. It recently has been re-commissioned by marque expert Michael Veys prior to being offered for sale here. It is handsomely presented in Black with Red vinyl interior. Although showing its age, with a full detailing it will be wonderful to drive or restore. Unused for two decades and freshly prepared by a specialist, this 1959 XK 150S is an excellent opportunity to acquire one of the most sought of all the XK series Jaguars with high performance engine and four-wheel disc brakes in the most desirable and rare Open Two Seater roadster body style.
