Description The enlargement of its C-Series six-cylinder engine to 2,912cc, and the adoption of Girling front disc brakes, differentiated the new-for-1959 Austin-Healey 3000 from the preceding 100/6. In 3000 form the rugged Austin six delivered 124bhp at 4,600rpm, good enough for a top speed (in overdrive) of 114mph. Otherwise, the car remained much as the 100/6, though the more-powerful disc brakes were a welcome improvement. Despatched on the 24th February 1960, this lovely Austin Healey 3000 MK I is a genuine UK RHD car supplied to the home market when new. The first owner sold the car after a year to a motorsport enthusiast from Bedfordshire, who acquired the car in 1961 from an Austin Healey dealer in Brighton. He competed with YUC 276 regularly in club and national rallies until their first child arrived in 1963, at which point his rallying boots were hung up. The Healey was later sold to the racing driver Tony Hegbourne who was unfortunately killed in a racing accident at Spa in 1965, whilst driving an Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ1 in the Spa 500km race. This well-presented Austin Healey 3000 MK I has been with the present owner for the past 27 years, and during this time has been maintained regardless of cost. As such it is presented in very good condition and is ready to use straight away. Reassuringly the Healey is offered with a large history file, including invoices supporting the work that has been carried out over the years. For long distance touring the Healey is supplied with an overdrive gearbox, and all wet weather equipment is present. Showing just 39,000 miles recorded, for those seeking a genuine original RHD Healey with a very interesting history, and supported by the relevant maintenance and restoration, this has to be the one.
