Widely recognised as one of the most desirable of all factory built ‘café racers’, the Rocket Gold Star arrived in 1962 along with the first of BSA’s new unitary construction range. A combination of - mainly - Gold Star cycle parts and the A10 Super Rocket twin-cylinder engine, the newcomer represented the last of the old pre-unit line rather than a new departure, and thus was destined for a relatively short life. The model was offered in a number of different forms and with a host of options relating to controls and equipment. Around 1,800 were made over a two-year period and today genuine examples are highly sought after. The Rocket Gold Star replica offered here consists of an A7/A10 frame dating from 1962 and an A10R engine of similar vintage. It is therefor possible, although not confirmed, that this is a matching-numbers machine, in which case it would have left the factory in ‘Super Rocket’ configuration. Of particular note are this machine’s flanged alloy wheel rims, alloy fuel tank, ‘racing’ seat and BSA-Triumph twin-leading-shoe front brake. Fully restored in 2000 and last taxed for the road to the end of April 2003, ‘USJ 979’ has covered only 350-or-so miles since completion and is still running in. The machine is presented in first class condition throughout and offered with Swansea V5 registration document.
