Left hand drive. Everything Jaguar cars had learned about sports cars during its legendary five victories at Le Mans in the 1950s went into the E-Type. Introduced at the Geneva International Motor Show in March 1961, it used an uprated version of the wonderful straight-six XK series engine in Sir William Lyons' stunningly beautiful monocoque bodyshell and was immediately acclaimed, not only for its elegance, but for its value of money. There was little doubt this beautifully finished and equipped two-seater was one of the fastest cars that could be purchased at the time and there was the reassurance that all this performance was now matched by sophisticated brakes, handling and outstanding cornering power. It was an immediate and lasting success and is now regarded as one of the most important designs of a brilliant era. This Series 1 flat floor roadster appears to be an extremely sound example of this classic sports car. Despite being an East Coast car, this vehicle seems to have led a very sheltered life and the usual signs of corrosion and bodyfiller are not evident. In recent months the car has been subject to a fresh repaint. At some stage the original upholstery has been exchanged for black vinyl and there is a small tear on the driver's seat. A wooden Nardi steering wheel is fitted. The engine ran very well on a recent inspection and was showing good oil pressure. The Jaguar has been kept well tuned and recent work includes new plugs and plug wires and a rebuilt master slave cylinder. The flat floor E-Type is a true collector's classic and still offers a tremendous amount of value for money. WITHOUT RESERVE
