* 2,634cc straight-six cylinder * Four-speed manual transmission plus overdrive * Four-wheel disc brakes * Desirable BJ8 Mark III model * Nut and bolt professional restoration * An ideal tours car In September 1956, a new, larger Austin-Healey joined the four-cylinder model. On two-inch longer wheelbase, it had tiny occasional seats for two in the rear, and an updated drive train. In place of the four was a 2,634 cc ohv six, the British Motor Corporation's "C" series engine, which, despite its smaller displacement, developed 12 more horsepower. A four-speed gearbox was now included, with overdrive optional. However, it was the three-liter four-seat Deluxe Roadster of 1959-1967 that became the archetypal "Big Healey." Introduced as the BT7 in the spring of 1959, it was succeeded by a Mk II version in 1961, with three carburetors producing 132 bhp. The final iteration of the "Big Healey" was the HBJ8, Mk III series, introduced in January 1964. Power was now up to 150 bhp and power disc brakes and overdrive were standard. Subject to a nut-and-bolt restoration by a recognized Healey specialist, this particular example of the ultimate Mark III BJ8 presents in showroom condition and is beautifully finished in the factory colors of British Racing Green with black upholstery, set off by painted wire wheels (a set of four chrome 60-spoke wire wheels fitted with tires will also be included and were fitted at the time of cataloging). Starting with a solid, low-mileage BJ8 the car has had a ground-up rotisserie restoration, with every component either replaced or rebuilt apart from the original gearbox, steering box and rear axle which were all found to be in excellent working order, needing only to be re-sealed. The motor was rebuilt, with the block bored and new pistons, rings, rods and main bearings, the cylinder head rebuilt and the carburetors overhauled. All engine ancillaries were rebuilt as needed and all systems, including the braking, fuel, electrical, cooling and exhaust, have been comprehensively overhauled. The body was stripped back to bare metal and the chassis sandblasted, then hand sealed, primed and painted with enamel on a rotisserie. After perfect panel fit was achieved, the panels themselves were primed, sealed and top-coated in "Leonsla" base- coat/clearcoat system. The paintwork was then color-sanded, buffed, polished and hand glazed to achieve a mirror like finish. The interior features new upholstery in correct Ambla, the seats faced in leather, with new carpets, black 'Everflex' hood and storage bag, recovered fascia and dash pad and all new chrome interior fittings. The body has all new rubbers and all chromework was re-plated. A standard steering wheel is now in the car, replacing the one shown at the time of cataloging. Finally, the Healey was fully detailed and test driven. Documented with an album of photographs, the car comes with a BMIHT certificate, knock-off hammer and a reprinted owner's manual. Offered with a California title.
