Launched at the New York Motor Show in March 1959, the Austin-Healey 3000 retained the preceding 100/6's C-Series engine. Over-bored to 2,912cc the latter produced 124bhp, good enough for a top speed of 114mph with the optional hardtop in place. Otherwise, the car was much as its immediate predecessor, though Girling front disc brakes were a welcome improvement. Introduced in 1961, the MkII in convertible form brought improved practicality courtesy of a fixed foldaway hood and winding windows. The 3000 MkIII with more-powerful (148bhp) engine appeared early in 1964, to be followed later that year by the Phase II featuring revised rear suspension. Top speed was now 121mph and the 0-60 time dipped below 10 seconds. Despite the basic design's antiquity, the big Healey remained as popular as ever, though increasingly stringent safety and emissions legislation meant that its days were numbered. By the time production ended in December 1967, over 16,000 Phase IIs - by far the most popular variant - had been built. Exported new to North America, this 3000 MkIII was acquired circa 1990 by a respected Austin Healey enthusiast in the North of England who commissioned a major professional restoration including conversion from lefthand to righthand drive. On completion the vehicle achieved fourth place in the Austin-Healey concours with a healthy points score in all areas. The vendor acquired 'PNW 106C' in May 1993, since when it has seen very little use. Correctly stored, always serviced, MoT'd and 'on the button' for the occasional trip out, the car remains in very good to excellent condition in every department. Finished in black with red leather interior, the car has the desirable manual/overdrive transmission and is offered with extensive history file containing sundry invoices and photographs, Heritage Certificate, MoT to July 2004 and Swansea V5.
