1965 Ford Mustang GT350 Tribute Lot Number 254 Registration HVK 455C Chassis Number 5R09C230559 Engine Number 230559 Odometer reading 27,544 miles Estimate £27,000 - £33,000 Result Sold - £34,160 Print details Send this to a friend 5 more images The brainchild of Lee Iacocca, the Mustang was the first 'Pony Car' and was born out of a need to compete with the flood of European sports cars coming into the USA in the sixties. The project was given the go-ahead, provided that the running gear was already available in the stock parts bin at Ford which is why, under the Mustang skin, you will find a Ford Falcon. The first production Mustang rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan on March 9, 1964 and was introduced to the public at the New York World's Fair on April 17, 1964. Only available as a hardtop coupé and convertible until September 1964, it would actually be the fastback that drew the interest of Carroll Shelby. The cars destined to be the 1965-1966 GT350 were delivered from Ford's San Jose assembly plant as 'body shells in white' for modification by Carroll Shelby's operation, originally in Venice Beach and later at Los Angeles International Airport. The 'Shelby Mustang' was hugely successful in GT Racing throughout the 1960’s and remains an American icon to this day. We are delighted to offer this fabulous Shelby Mustang GT350 Tribute. Beautifully presented in Vintage Burgundy with the iconic Shelby stripes and Le Mans livery, complemented with a stunning new custom cherry interior. This Mustang has recently benefited from a ground up restoration and upgrade to GT350 specification, with many thousands of pounds spent achieving a superior finish. Now suitably equipped with air conditioning, power steering, GT driving lights, dual exhaust with GT Tips through the rear valance apertures. Shelby Cobra badges adorn the car all round and other features include remote trunk release, dash mounted tachometer, uprated disc brakes, automatic transmission, and unmarked Torque Thrust alloy wheels. Further enhancements include high torque 'mini' starter motor, Shelby trunk lid and rear wing extensions. The Mustang is powered by the popular 289ci (4.7 litre) V8 engine. To complete the look, the glove box adorns the signature of the great man himself. Simply stunning and supplied with a UK V5 registration document and a recent MoT test certificate. The photos of this car really do it justice. Looking great and sounding superb. With prices of the Fastback steadily rising and genuine GT350s selling north of £150,000,this Mustang is sensibly guided and represents a great value at a fraction of the cost of the real thing. For fun, attention and a sound investment, look no further.
