1965 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster (4.2 litre) Lot Number337 RegistrationCNB 869C Chassis Number1E1192 Odometer reading93,022 miles Estimate£98,000 - £115,000 ResultSold - £112,000 Print details Send this to a friend Upon its introduction at the 1961 Geneva Salon, Jaguar’s E-Type was an immediate hit, with its sleek design backed up by staggering performance. The newcomer’s appearance owed much to that of the racing D-Type and indeed the E-Type would be one of the last great sports cars developed directly from a successful competition ancestor. Just as with the D-Type, a monocoque tub formed the main body/chassis structure while a tubular spaceframe extended forwards to support the engine. The latter was the same 3.8-litre, triple-SU carburettor fed ‘S’ unit first offered as an option on the preceding XK150. With a claimed 265 horsepower on tap, the E-Type’s performance furthered the standards set by the preceding XK models: firstly, because it weighed around 500lbs less than the XK150 and secondly because aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer used experience gained with the D-Type to create one of the most elegant and efficient shapes ever to grace a motor car. Originally registered on 1st April 1965, this genuine UK supplied right hand drive example still retains its original registration number and presents in superb condition. It was comprehensively restored in 2015 at a cost of circa £50,000 which included a bare metal respray and an engine rebuild together with the gearbox and carburettors. Finished in red with black interior, this is an E-Type of the highest quality. In addition to the above work, the brakes have been overhauled and a servo fitted, the suspension has also been rebuilt. Sitting proudly on chrome wire wheels and well shod tyres, this E-Type is supplied with a V5C registration document and a history folder containing a number of invoices. The fastidious and knowledgeable vendor has ensured this highly desirable Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster presents in the best possible condition in order for a new owner to enjoy this iconic British classic immediately.
