Produced from 1963 to 1968, the Jaguar S-Type was a technically a more sophisticated development of the Jaguar Mk. II, offering buyers a more luxurious alternative. It was available with either 3.4 or 3.8 litre XK engines and featured longer rear bodywork among other styling and interior changes. Despite its extra weight, the S-Type's independent rear suspension allowed it to corner faster than the Mk. II, especially on uneven surfaces providing better traction and a much smoother ride for rear seat passengers with the consensus that the S-Type offered significant improvements over the Mk. II in road holding, safety and ride comfort. Described as "a convenient family car, a businessman's express, a sports coupé and a grand tourer." This matching numbers, UK righthand drive example presents with automatic transmission and is finished in Warwick Grey with a suede green leather, the combination with which it left the factory in back in 1966 and is all supported by a heritage certificate from Jaguar. It has a large history file from its three owners and the 78,000 miles showing on the odometer are believed to be correct, partially due to two long periods of dry storage. The car was fully restored back in 2001 to include a re-build of its original engine and, in the last six months, it has also been re-sprayed in original Warwick Grey; had its bumpers and stops re-chromed and the leather re-Connolised. Furthermore, it has also had new front wheel-arches and sills installed, the wood veneers polished and a full stainless steel exhaust system fitted. Mechanically, it has responded well to a carburettor tune-up, a re-conditioned choke, a new steering column, new rear brake discs and four new tyres. Needless to say, it has also had a full service and MoT test. It is reported to start every time, maintains excellent oil pressure and drives and brakes well. In summary, an extremely well-sorted example of Jaguar's natural successor to the Mk. II.
