1967 Alfa Romeo Spider 1600 Duetto (1750cc) Lot Number261 RegistrationNAL 425E Chassis NumberAR10202 - 710202 Engine NumberAR005483193 Odometer reading81,503 miles Estimate£28,000 - £32,000 ResultSold - £39,200 Print details Send this to a friend 5 more images A genuine UK supplied righthand drive example Presented in exceptional condition The Alfa Romeo Spider 1600, to give it its official factory name, was manufactured during 1966 and 1967. The name 'Duetto' came about from a competition held by Alfa Romeo to distinguish the car from its Giulia 105 series stable mates, the Coupé and Berlina, and was accepted for its reference to the two-seat layout. The Duetto name only applied to the 1600 model, two later variants, with different engine sizes, were, the 1750 Velocé and 1300 Junior; all of the models are commonly known today as roundtail spiders. These advanced motor cars were fitted, as standard, with twin cam engines, five-speed gearboxes and disc brakes on all four wheels. We are delighted to offer this 1967 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto. A letter on file from the Alfa Romeo Automobilismo Storico Centro Documentazione, states that this car corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Spider 1600 ‘Duetto’ righthand drive (105.05), manufactured on the 17th May 1967 and sold on the 18th May 1967 to Alfa Romeo UK, London and was delivered with red body and black skai interior. In June 1983, the car was exported to Eire and in 2011 the Duetto was purchased by a keen, Italian Alfa Romeo enthusiast, who re-imported it into the UK at that time. Although described during that period, as in good drivable condition, the car was delivered to a specialist body shop in Brescia, Italy, for a full bare metal restoration that took two years to complete. At some point, this Roundtail Spider has had a larger, period 1750cc engine fitted, many Alfisti would say, “it’s the best engine”. A beautifully presented, large history file, confirms that this Alfa Romeo has been well cared for and loved. Many invoices are recorded from well-known specialists such as Alfaholics and E. B. Spares. The vendor, who acquired the car in July 2014, has maintained it with the well-known Alfa guru, Titus Rowlandson of Victory Garage. There are letters on file confirming the history plus an Alfa Romeo Owner’s Club valuation of £50,000. Recent works have included a new hood and a fresh MoT test certificate, with no advisories, valid until May 2020. The car is complete with the aforementioned history file and UK V5 registration document. Presented in its original livery of Pininfarina Rosso with a contrasting black interior, this delightful Alfa Romeo really shines and is offered at a fraction of the cost of a restoration to bring a car to this standard. With back up from an excellent spares network offered by many UK specialists and with their twin cam engines, five-speed gearboxes and disc brakes all around, these Roundtail Spiders are surely, not only a piece of automotive art, but a very usable and practical classic. The vendor states, “It’s a really pretty car and a new owner will have a lot of fun in it. It’s a remarkably practical touring car.” So there you have it, a beautiful and usable classic Alfa Romeo.
