Description The Mustang was initially offered as either a ‘Notchback’ Coupé or a Convertible with the ‘Fastback’ appearing later. It shared its front double-wishbone/coil spring and leaf spring rear suspension with the Falcon but compared to the saloon the cockpit sat further back on the chassis, resulting in a longer front and shorter rear end design and both its roof and bonnet were also lower in comparison. Those proportions somehow just worked, and with a full complement of new styling details such as the galloping horse in the grille, the cut-away side sections, the 3-section rear lights and that ‘get outta my way’ front end, everyone wanted one. This amazing V8 muscle car was first registered in 1967, later being restored by an avid Mustang collector based in Tennessee in the United States, then added to his private collection of over 100 classic cars and trucks. The Mustang has clearly been restored to a very high standard; under the bonnet is a tuned Ford 302 Small Block motor which has enjoyed a rebuild with camshaft upgrade, Ford Racing air cleaner and valve covers and Mallory ignition system. The motor is fed via a twin choke Holley carburettor through a polished aluminium inlet manifold, and breathes out through a custom H-pipe exhaust with Flo-Master mufflers. The rebuilt motor is mated to a 4-speed top loader manual gearbox, and 9” Ford 4:10 ratio rear axle, stabilised with anti-tramp bars to keep power to the wheels. Handling is improved by the fitting of Monroe adjustable shock absorbers, power steering has been added to improve maneuverability, and stopping has been improved with servo operated discs to the front end. Beautifully presented in Acapulco Blue, and offered with a recent MOT certificate, this must surely rank as one of the very best Mustang Fastbacks in the UK today.
