The similarly styled, but mechanically unrelated, 190 followed in 1955, completing the first generation of cars. Their successor was the W113 series SL that proved to be more comfortable than the former and faster than the latter. The 250 SL is the rarest of all the SL's as they were only made for one year. The 250 SL also had a far superior seven main bearing engine as opposed to four in the 230 SL. This matching-numbers example of the 250 SL Pagoda has just undergone a major mechanical and body overhaul by one of the UK’s leading Mercedes-Benz specialists. Originally red, today this example is presented in Mercedes-Benz MB906 metallic light blue; the coachwork is exemplary and complemented by a new Navy Blue interior. Many new parts were fitted to make this not only good looking, but functional also. This 250 SL was manufactured at the Daimler-Benz A.G. factory in Stuggart, Germany, on Thursday 17thAugust 1967 and then shipped to the official Mercedes-Benz distributors in North America where it was registered on 17thAugust 1967 and latterly imported into the UK in 2012 and subsequently UK registered on 1stAugust 2013. The car is complete with its Pagoda hardtop, a history file that includes American invoices and notes, US Certificate of Title, a dating letter from The Mercedes-Benz Club Ltd., a UK V5 registration document and, we are informed, will arrive at the sale with a fresh MoT test certificate. Total production of the Mercedes-Benz 250 SL, only accounted for a mere 5,196 units with the manufacture commencing during December 1966 and ceasing in January 1968 making this one of the rarest examples of the SL range of motorcars. Interested parties should note that an engine fault developed whilst being driven to the auction. The vendor, concerned that a new owner shouldn't worry agreed that immediately after the sale, the car will be taken away, the engine rebuilt and (with a 12 month warranty subject to warranty terms and conditions) the car delivered back to the new owner (within 50 miles of the auction venue).
