The similarly styled, but mechanically unrelated, 190 followed in 1955, completing the first generation of cars. Their successor was the W113 series SL which proved to be more comfortable than the former and faster than the latter. The 250 SL is the rarest of all the SL's as they were only made for one year and just 1,388 right hand drive examples were manufactured; of these, very few were fitted with a manual gearbox. The 250 SL also had a far superior seven main bearing engine as opposed to four in the 230 SL. This 250 SL was originally configured as a right hand drive car built for the Japanese market. It was subsequently imported into the United States where it was converted to left hand drive. When this well-travelled Mercedes arrived in the United Kingdom, the car was found to have minor bodywork imperfections so a full respray was undertaken at Kalum bodyworks in Hainault. This attractive Mercedes now presents extremely well in grey with a removable roof and well trimmed, contrasting red interior. This iconic looking car started first time when requested and we are informed this manual transmission SL drives well. Offered to auction with EU Taxes paid and a NOVA registration number. These elegant roadsters are enormous fun and potentially good investments.
