Mercedes-Benz has been producing an SL (Sport Leicht) model or range of models since 1954 when the landmark 300SL was unveiled. The similarly styled, but mechanically unrelated, 190 followed in 1955, completing the first generation of cars. Their successor was the W113 series SL, which proved to be more comfortable than the former and faster than the latter. The 250SL is the rarest of all the SL's as they were only made for one year and just 1,388 righthand drive examples manufactured. Of these, very few were fitted with a manual gearbox. The 250SL also had a far superior seven main bearing engine, as opposed to four in the 230SL, and had rear disc brakes and stiffer suspension. The 250SL California Coupé was distinctive by the full width rear bench seat making it a proper comfortable two plus two. This rare righthand drive Mercedes-Benz 250SL California Coupé with automatic gearbox was supplied new into the UK in August 1967. Finished in silver with dark blue leather interior and silver factory hard top, this 250SL Pagoda has recently been serviced by Mercedes-Benz specialists, Steve Redfern Motor Co, in London SW19 and the vendor has also had the bumpers re-chromed. It is supplied with a V5C registration document and an MoT test certificate which expires in February 2015. The ideal car in which to cruise down to the Mediterranean, remove the Pagoda roof and enjoy the sunshine.
