The ancestry of the Alfa Romeo Duetto started with the Pininfarina designed Spider Speciale Aerodynamica shown at the 1961 Turin Motor Show. Concept to production took a little longer in those days so the Duetto only came into fruition in 1966. Initially it was not well received and quickly earned the nickname 'Osso di Seppoa' (cuttlefish). The name 'Duetto' came about from a competition held by Alfa Romeo to distinguish the car from its Giulia 105 series stable mates, the coupé and berlina and was accepted for its reference to the two seat layout. Offered here is a stunning matching numbers boat-tail example, presented in its original "grigio chiaro metallizzato" paint with black interior which was recently re-trimmed perfectly by specialists B Trim; it has clearly been cherished over many years. Believed to be one of only two right hand drive Junior Spiders remaining on British roads, it was delivered to the UK as a righthand drive on August 1st 1968. The history file accompanying the Spider is very impressive demonstrating a no expense spared philosophy over the years of ownership. Details of the UK service history and MoT test certificates are accompanied by a full log of the mileage since around 1995. We are informed the car runs beautifully and, equally as important, the body work and door shuts are perfect. Offered with a valid MoT test certificate until December 2016 this is a perfect example of a sexy Italian spider, not only representing a great opportunity for summer motoring but also offering what many would believe to be a rock solid investment.
