Imperial, the designation given to the top of the range Chrysler intended to compete with Lincoln, Packard and Cadillac, became a separate marque within the group at the end of 1954. Under the management of Virgil Exner, there was an explosion of style for the sake of style with wings that rivaled those of Cadillac. Imperial only abandoned them in 1964 in favour of a less ostentatious, more refined style that was more linear and nearer to that of the Lincoln Continental. The abandonment of the separate chassis for the 1967 model led to the unification of the Chrysler and Imperial bodywork and a reduction in the wheelbase. The 1968 models had few changes, the most visible externally being the radiator grille set laterally and forming a double stem at the edges. The engine is the very reliable V8 440 (7.2 litre) putting out 360hp, with the addition of 3 speed TorqueFlite automatic gearbox. Using this type of base, Imperial offered the better equipped LeBaron 4 door hard top saloon (code YH43). A total of 1,852 examples were produced. The car offered is a LeBaron saloon in black with interior in black leather in good condition, separate driver cabin and air conditioning. The bodywork is in very good and complete original condition except for the quarter panel identification letters and a broken reversing light. Put into circulation in October 1968, it has 53,302 km on the odometer. The original vehicle registration document is still in the name of the Embassy of the Republic of Gabon. This car which was supposed to be President M'Ba's and Bongo's car, has a clear official sticker.
