The Mustang was introduced in 1964 and was well received by the public from day one, indeed the car is still in production today albeit many generations on from the 1964 model. The 1967 model had major styling revisions and was now bigger and more powerful than before. The 1968 model was visually similar to the previous year but newly introduced federal regulations mandated front and rear side indicators on the car, this makes differentiating the two models years an easy task. Safety features were more prominent than in previous years and the car featured a new two-spoke energy-absorbing steering wheel along with federally mandated seat belts. The Mustang's side scoops were replaced with one-piece chrome styling for the 1968 model and were accentuated by C-stripe graphics, the grille was also redesigned. An innovative feature was the indicators that were integrated into the bonnet and some of the features included Selectshift Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission and AM/FM radio. Further options were bucket seats, racing stripes on the bonnet, quick release fuel cap, and the overhead console. The 302ci engine was the new V8 engine that came to fruition in 1968 and this would eventually go on to completely replace the 289 ci unit. The standard 302 was capable of producing 230 hp which was 30 more than the previous 289ci engine. The latest high performance Mustang for 1968 was the 428 Cobra Jet, the engine being conceived from a 428 police-car short block engine, aluminum manifold, 427 low-riser cylinder heads, and a special camshaft. The Mustang fastback was immortalized by Steve McQueen in the 1968 film Bullitt and the ten minute car chase through San Francisco which is widely regarded as the best car chase on film ever produced. This lefthand drive fastback was built at the San Jose plant in California in 1968. An original GT fastback fitted with a 302ci V8 engine and automatic transmission. First registered in the UK on July 1 st 1991, this extremely well presented GT model has been the subject of much expenditure as can seen by the quality of the overall finish. The coachwork is finished in metallic blue with a solid white bonnet and boot stripe and mid blue interior. A well specified car from new with options including the rare overhead console and rev counter, a number of modern upgrades have been fitted making this a very drivable car. The suspension has been lowered from the standard ride height and is combined with larger and wider Torqthrust wheels that give a vast improvement on the handling compared with a standard example. The brakes have also been enhanced with larger front discs and a number of Ford racing parts have been used throughout the engine bay. In addition an up rated radiator is fitted and the sports exhaust provides a particularly pleasing V8 burble. Further additions include a billet front grille. Supplied with full UK V5 registration document and MoT road test certificate to January 4 th 2011, VML 112F is a well maintained and tastefully modified Mustang that is ready to be enjoyed.
