1970 JAGUAR E-TYPE 4.2 LITRE TWO-SEATER FIXED HEAD COUPE Registration No. PRV 200J Chassis No. 1R20877 Engine No. 7R11207-9 Red with tan leather interior. Engine: six cylinder twin overhead camshaft, triple SU carburettors, 4,235cc; Gearbox: four speed synchromesh; Brakes: Dunlop servo discs; Suspension: independent front and rear. Right hand drive. To many the Jaguar E-Type is the archetypal British sportscar of the post war years. It appeared in 1961 and quickly changed the perception of sportscar enthusiasts, being faster, more powerful and better sprung than its popular rivals. Two thirds of production were to go to North America whilst the car itself evolved through three series, developing progressively from 3.8 litre to 4.2 and finally 5.3 litre V12. The Series 2 cars carried a number of changes and improvements, many to meet stringent US laws, which included a larger front grille, wrap round bumpers, more raked windscreen and re-designed interior with more use of rocker switches. Open headlamps were also standard. This is one such 1970 car, first registered in September of that year and which has been in its present family since 1987. The previous owner purchased it in 1974, travelling some 25,000 miles in the car. In 1988 the car was subjected to a considerable amount of both mechanical and bodywork attention, with replacement outer sills and an exchange bonnet fitted. The doors were re-aligned as necessary, whilst the car was stripped to bare metal and etch-primed before repainting in cellulose opalescent maroon. More recently, in 1990, respected engineering specialists Janspeed of Salisbury attended to the car, undertaking considerable mechanical work to the engine including fitting new wheel bearings, re-building the brake callipers with new pistons and seals, fitting new top and bottom ball joints, fitting a re-conditioned fuel tank, fitting hub bearings and track rod ends. The indicated mileage now is 45,400 and this is believed genuine for the car. The condition of the paintwork is good and the brightwork was all re-chromed. The interior has tan upholstery with head restraints to the front seats and a period Super 8 track radio/cassette system is fitted. Chrome wire wheels are fitted and the car has an MoT certificate until November 30th this year. The private vendor meticulously kept all paperwork relating to the car during his ownership and the E-Type was one of a number of sportscars in the family motor house.
