1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda Lot Number 195 Registration AAA 866J Chassis Number 11304422023387 Engine Number 13098322015753 Odometer reading 77,000 miles Estimate £60,000 - £70,000 Print details Send this to a friend The Mercedes 280 SL 'Pagoda' was introduced in December 1967 and continued in production through until February 1971. The W113 was then replaced by its successor, the entirely new and substantially heavier R107 350 SL. Over the years, the W113 evolved from a 'sports car' into a comfortable 'grand tourer', and was usually equipped with the four-speed automatic transmission and air conditioning. The 250 SL was basically a one-year model, introduced at the 1967 Geneva Motor Show. The more desirable and more powerful 2.8 litre 280 SL was introduced in 1967 and continued in production largely unchanged through to 1971. The obvious difference from its predecessor was the upgrade to the 2778cc M130 engine, which purists will tell you finally gave the Pagoda adequate power. This original righthand drive 280 SL has been with the current owner since 2013 and has had little use in that time due to the owner living overseas. It was purchased from the previous keeper who had the car since 1988; some 25 years. Recent extensive work has been carried out to the underside of the car and the history file contains 43 invoices from Mercedes specialist, Roger Edwards, as well as a current MoT test certificate. The car has been fitted with a new soft top in the last five years but also comes supplied with its hard top. This is an extremely collectable, righthand drive Mercedes-Benz 280 SL and the most sought-after model of this iconic car.
