It is important to understand how the Alfa Romeo Montreal came about as its design and power plant are was something to behold. Montreal, Canada, the setting for the 1967 World's Fair; the International and Universal Exposition or 'Expo 67' as it was known. Alfa Romeo was asked to provide an exhibit that would be representative of the automotive industry. The result was a fabulous prototype designed by Marcello Gandini of the Bertone styling house and named Montreal in honour of the event. The 105 series chassis and components were used as a basis, designed with ease of future production in mind. When the first production model was revealed in 1970 the styling was virtually identical to the World's Fair prototype but the biggest surprise was the power plant under the bonnet. Alfa Romeo used a detuned Type 33 racing car's V8 engine of 2,593cc capacity which produced over 200bhp. Regrettably, the Type 33 six-speed transmission and transaxle were not used, however; a ZF gearbox five-speed gearbox and modified 105 series rear axle were incorporated to good effect. Today, we are delighted to offer this 1972, tax exempt, Alfa Romeo Montreal presented in AR 601/2 Orange and complimented with a black Alfatex interior. The current Alfa Romeo aficionado and owner acquired this Montreal nine years ago when he purchased it from a friend, another Alfa Romeo enthusiast who had owned the car for the previous four years. We are informed that during the past 13 years, the Montreal has proved very reliable and drives faultlessly. In fact, the current fastidious owner has recently expended in the region of £3,500 which included the replacement of the electronic control boxes and re-upholstered seats. Survey the exterior and you will discover that the Montreal is far more beautiful in the flesh than any photograph may portray. Step inside and settle into the seats and take a moment to adjust to the surroundings. In front of you are an array of instruments that keep the driver well informed and the view over the bonnet revealing more contours than may be expected from the outside? With the Montreal now being discovered and appreciated for the supercar that it is, prices are starting to rise worldwide.
