Known as the Sprint GT, later versions were introduced that included the GT Veloce and 1750 GTV. June 1971 saw the replacement of the 1750 GTV with the 2000 GT Veloce, the new model being presented at Gardone. A larger displacement engine of 1962cc in the new larger capacity Alfa Romeo saw power and torque increases over its predecessor resulting in a recorded 132bhp and a top speed of more than 120mph. The greater low speed torque and larger flexibility at higher revs is a feature of this two litre engine. Externally, other than badging, a new horizontal front grill incorporated the Alfa Romeo shield and rear light units were enlarged. The interior trim was revised and the instruments were grouped into one cluster to enable easier and quicker scanning of the instruments. Production ceased in 1976. We are delighted to offer, what is in our opinion, a rather special and well known Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce. A letter from Marco Fazio, Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo, residing within the large history file, confirms that this 2000 GT Veloce was manufactured on 4 th June, 1973 and sold to Alfa Romeo UK, London on 5 th June, 1973. Offered with the coachwork finished in the correct Alfa Romeo Hawthorn White (Biancospino) with a contrasting anthracite leather cloth interior, the Alfa Romeo displays excellent panel gaps throughout, an important indicator as to the structural integrity of this motorcar. A large history file contains old MoT test certificates, various correspondences, invoices, DVLA SORN records and includes a service book with records up until 1977. There is also a statement at the rear of the service book stating that the Alfa Romeo had the faulty odometer replaced at 38,300 miles on 1 st October 1979. With the odometer now reading 37,300 miles and records within the history file, we may suggest the true mileage is 75,600 miles at the time of writing. The interior is in good order and, of particular note, are the carpets that are the original factory supplied ribbed items and are no longer available. Mechanically, an Alfaholics suspension handling kit is fitted and includes Bilstein shock absorbers and an invoice for a Dell'Orto service kit indicates overhauled carburettors. On a recent test drive, the GT Veloce drove very well with no bangs rattles or squeaks, in fact, our tester, an Alfa Romeo enthusiast and collector himself, stated that it drives as a new car. A UK V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate, valid until September 2017 with no advisories, accompany the Alfa Romeo along with a spare set of keys. At a time when righthand drive examples are predominately arriving into the UK from South Africa, it is refreshing to find, not only a UK market-supplied righthand drive Alfa Romeo built with the Italian featured interiors but also one that is in such fine order throughout. We feel that with this quality in a 105 Series Giulia Coupé, it can truly be enjoyed as designed and will become remarkable value.
