1974 MGB TWO SEATER ROADSTER Chassis No. GHN5UE340016G Engine No. 18Y672Z-L26777 Damask red with black interior and black soft top Engine: four cylinder, in-line, pushrod overhead valve, twin SU carburetors, 1,798cc, 79bhp at 5,500rpm; Gearbox: four speed manual with synchromesh; Suspension: independent front by coil springs and wishbones, semi-elliptic springs with hydraulic shock absorbers to live axle at the rear; Brakes: front hydraulically operated disc, rear drum. Left hand drive. Introduced in 1962, the MGB was a much more practical car than its predecessors, offering a roomy cockpit and a comfortable ride. Outfitted with more details than in earlier MGs, with adjustable back seats, proper wind-up windows and a hood designed to remain firmly in place and watertight at the 100mph plus pace within the capability of the car. There was a much more roomy trunk and (if willing) space for an extra passenger behind the seats. The factory offered a fascinating range of performance kits and options ranging from easily bolted-on engine and suspension tuning items, to full race and rally preparation. The car would continue on to a long and rewarding career in club and international competitions. Possessed of excellent road manners, straightforward and enjoyable to drive, the MGB has today an honored place in the classic car world. Internationally, there are large and supportive owners' clubs offering a vast range of social activities and competitions, and the car can keep pace on modern congested roads. This example is a California-supplied car that has covered just over 50,000 miles from new, most of which in the hands of the first owner who sold the car to a local repair shop due to smog issues. The vendor purchased this car from the second owner in 2002 as an uncompleted project (albeit amassing huge expense in parts alone) and has since exhaustively restored the car into the fine condition it is presented in today. It has been repainted in the attractive original color of Damask red (a deep burgundy) and this treatment even extended to a fresh undercoating and detail to the vehicle's underside. The engine was fully rebuilt using new pistons, bearings, timing chain and camshaft. The gearbox was overhauled along with a comprehensive rebuild of the suspension and brake system, amongst tending to other mechanical details. Both the interior and engine bay have been treated to a thorough rejuvenation with an abundance of new parts utilized such as completely updating the trim to give the MGB an aura more akin to that of a new car. With earlier (1973-style) over-riders installed on the new bumpers, this striking sports car has been lavished with money and attention, and is set to offer the new owner great enjoyment for years to come. WITHOUT RESERVE
