Beschreibung:

Recalling its glamorous Grandes Routières of pre-war days such as the Phantom II Continental, Rolls-Royce’s final coachbuilt models - entrusted to the company’s in-house coachbuilder Mulliner Park Ward - were limited to just two, a two-door coupé or similar convertible, the former arriving in March 1966 and the latter in September the following year. The cars were hand built in the best traditions of British coachbuilding using only materials of the finest quality, including Wilton carpeting, Connolly hide and burr walnut veneers, a necessarily lengthy process that took all of 20 weeks for the saloon and slightly longer for the more complex convertible. This painstaking attention to detail resulted in a price some 50% higher than the standard Silver Shadow’s. Nevertheless, demand for these more glamorous alternatives to the much more numerous Silver Shadow was strong right from the start, a state of affairs that resulted in them being given their own model name - ‘Corniche’ - in March 1971. Despite its sky-high asking price, the model proved a major success for Rolls-Royce; periodically revised and up-dated, it remained in production well into the 1990s, the last (Convertible) examples being delivered in 1995. Supplied new in the UK via Jack Barclay Ltd, this right-hand drive Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible was acquired by the present collector owner in November 1991. The car has seen little use during his ownership, as indicated by accompanying expired MoT certificates recording only a limited annual mileage between February 1991 at 29,115 miles and July 2002 at 30,461. The current recorded mileage total stands at 30,567. The service book has been stamped five times (during the 1980s), the most recent entry dating from November 1987 at 24,133 miles. Servicing during this period and immediately afterwards was undertaken by Rolls-Royce and Bentley agents Hadley Green Garage of Barnet, Herts, invoices for which are available. Further service invoices dated June 1999 (Allum Auto Services) and August 2002 (Hofmann’s of Henley) are on file. The current and highly desirable UK registration, ’75 RR’, is available by separate negotiation via Bonhams. The car is finished in metallic walnut with magnolia leather interior, the latter equipped with period Blaupunkt radio, Pioneer radio/ cassette and lambswool over-rugs. Described as in good condition in all respects, and performing impeccably on a recent test drive, it is offered complete with tool kit, owner’s handbook and current UK Swansea V5 registration document. Local taxes will be liable if the car remains in Switzerland.
