The Triumph Spitfire was introduced in October 1962 and the vehicle was based on a design produced for Standard-Triumph in 1957 by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti. The codename for the vehicle was the ""Bomb"" and the car was largely based on the Triumph Herald saloon, throughout its life was built at the Standard-Triumph works at Canley, Coventry. The Spitfire was produced from 1962 to 1981, produced in five series named mk1-4 and then the final incarnation, the 1500. The car was designed to be a low cost sports car that was available to all pockets and its attractive Italian styling and robust British engineering meant the car sold well during its production life. The example on offer today is a 1500cc version finished in brown coachwork with a matching brown interior. Purchased by the vendor as a rolling project, the car is currently being fully repainted and will be ready and complete by the time of the sale. The odometer reading of 42,800 miles is understood to be genuine according to the vendor and MHK 569P is supplied with all the old MoT test certificates. In addition the car is fitted with a hardtop making winter use infinitely more pleasant and will also be supplied with a current MoT road test certificate. Please note, this is a library image.
