"In short: these cars combine advanced engineering and safety specifications with traditional Rolls-Royce standards of craftsmanship. In the manner of their performance they are as revolutionary as the Silver Ghost was 59 years ago," - Rolls-Royce Motors on the launch of the Silver Shadow and Bentley T1. Introduced in 1965, Rolls-Royce's first unitary construction models continued to use the Silver Cloud II's well-tried, 6.2-litre V8 until the need to maintain power while meeting US emissions targets forced its enlargement to 6,750cc in 1970. Notable developments prior to that had included the adoption of GM400 automatic transmission and air conditioning as standard. For 1973 the front suspension subframe was re-designed, enabling radial tyres to be fitted without compromising ride quality, and later that year 'impact-resistant' bumpers were standardised. Introduced in 1977, the revised Shadow II featured power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering and split-level air conditioning among many improvements. This Shadow II saloon is believed to have been supplied new to the Wedgewood pottery company before being sold to one of its directors, and this company-to-director sequence applied to the next two registered keepers before the car was sold to a new owner in Bournemouth in 1984. The car was next sold to an owner in Nantwich in 1995 and bought by the vendor in June 1997. We are advised that the vehicle has covered 57,000 miles from new and benefits from a new set of tyres fitted 900 miles ago. Finished in nutmeg with brown Everflex roof and cream-piped brown leather upholstery, it is presented in very good condition throughout and offered with service schedules from new, MoT certificates from 1987, sundry invoices from 1989, road fund licence to November 2004, MoT to June 2005 and Swansea V5 registration document.
