1982 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL Roadster Lot Number 220 Registration NHV 271X Chassis Number WDB107046-22-001240 Engine Number 117962-22-000295 Odometer reading 31,685 miles Estimate £24,000 - £28,000 Result Sold - £34,720 Print details Send this to a friend This fine example of the Mercedes-Benz SL marque was manufactured and delivered to ZF Garages Ltd., Hong Kong and was registered to a Mr Kwong. In 1984, Mr Kwong imported the SL into the United Kingdom where it was registered on 25th September of that year. Sadly, in 1993, Mr Kwong passed away and the Mercedes was kept in dry storage until discovered by Mr Shields who then purchased the car on 21st June 2004. Almost exactly one year later, Mr Shields sold the SL to its current and meticulous owner. Today, this Mercedes-Benz 500 SL presents itself in excellent condition, the coachwork finish and panel gaps being of note and complimented by the alloy wheels with excellent tyres. Further inspection reveals an engine compartment that is smart and demonstrates the SL’s low mileage as does the boot area complete with tool kit and accessories. The interior is sumptuous and is trimmed with dark tan leather seats and Mercedes-Benz Tech trim. The specification includes air conditioning, automatic gearbox and a Becker Mexico Radio cassette. A soft top is easily erected and is in very good order whilst a hardtop is also included and benefits from a lightweight folding and portable hardtop stand. On the road, the SL drives well, installing confidence in the quality of the Mercedes-Benz product. Within the 17 years of the current ownership, all records of all works and MoT tests carried out have been scrupulously kept with the most recent works, carried out in January 2017, totaling over £5,600; these works included replacement gearbox supports and retainers, engine mountings, modification of the air conditioning to accept R132A gas connections, flush and charge the system, fit new rubber seals to the doors, soft top, hard top and windows, replace under bonnet soundproofing, fit new exhaust balance pipes and exhaust heat shield, fit camshaft bearing oil pipe kits, check valve timing, adjust power steering, replace rear anti-roll bar bushes, fit new fuel filter and fit a new spare tyre. In addition, the undersides were cleaned and waxed, the windscreen and fan cover removed and all drains and chambers protected. An extensive history file includes invoices, old MoT test certificates, service book, owner’s manual, UK V5 registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until February 2018. Also included are a number of Mercedes-Benz related books including, Haynes Manual, Mercedes-Benz SL Series by Andrew Noakes, Mercedes-Benz und SLC by Brian Long, Mercedes-Benz SLs and SLCs – Brooklands Books, Factory Original by James Taylor Mercedes-Benz The Essential Buyer’s Guide – Velocé Books and an original Mercedes-Benz 500SL sales brochure. NHV 271X is UK registered and has an MoT test certificate valid until 23rd February 2018. It is not easy to find such an attractive a Mercedes-Benz 500 SL of this age, mileage, and condition so we would strongly recommend that you view this motorcar to fully appreciate it. With the sun now shining, all it needs is a new owner to enjoy all of its benefits.
