The 308 GTB was launched at the Paris motor show in 1975 and was built alongside the 308 GT4, designed as a replacement for the 246 Dino. Designed by Leonardo Fiorvanti, the man who styled some of the most iconic Ferrari's including the Daytona, the new 308 was a rakish and attractive body which fused classic elements of Ferrari styling with a thoroughly modern design. For the first two years of production the body of the308 was produced in fibreglass, after which steel was used. The 308 shared a similar tube frame chassis as the original Dino and 308 GT4 and four wheel double wishbone independent suspension. The engine was a V8 unit which was positioned behind the driver and was transversely mounted with double overhead camshafts and four 40DCNF Weber carburettors, which were latterly replaced with Bosch K Jetronic mechanical fuel injection. The gearbox was a five speed manual unit with all synchromesh. In 1982 the Quattrovalvole (QV) engine was introduced which featured four valves per cylinder and saw power increase to 245bhp @ 7000 rpm from 214bhp of the earlier 308 GTBi engine. Performance was impressive with 0-60 mph attained in 6.7 seconds, 0-100 mph in 14.30 seconds and on to a top speed of 156 mph. This righthand drive QV is finished in rosso corsa coachwork with black seats and brown carpets. APA 20Y was supplied new on 24 th May 1983 by Maranello concessionaires, to a Mr Wallis of Devonshire Place, London W1. The car was maintained by Maranello until 1986 when it was serviced by official agents Modena, returning to Maranello in the early nineties and more recently by specialists Terry Keys motorsport. A full service was carried out by Terry Keys motorsport in 2008 and the car will be freshly serviced before the sale with a new set of cambelts by GTO racing. Fitted with a deep front chin spoiler and a set of aftermarket split rim alloy wheels, the original Ferrari wheels will be supplied with the car. This well presented QV is also supplied with a near complete run of MoT road test certificates including a current certificate valid to 5 th August 2011. The current mileage reads 38,042 miles although the vendor states the car had a speedometer change and actual mileage is nearer to 58,000. The original owners wallet with handbooks and service books accompany the car and a history file is also supplied. Fully UK registered, APA 20Y is finished in the classic colour combination and offers an exciting, cost effective open Ferrari driving experience.
