Beschreibung:

The Mercedes-Benz SL (Sport Leicht) has been in production since 1954 with perhaps the most influential model being the W113 Pagoda of 1963. This second generation evolved from the 230SL to 250SL, finally becoming the 280SL.The W113 was replaced by the W107 in 1971 and as the engines became bigger, the bodywork and weight of the cars also increased - as often happens in mid-life! The SL improved through the years with technical innovation but still managed to keep its fundamental character and identity of an up-market quality sports car. Its reputation went from strength to strength when it was rare to see an episode of Dallas or Dynasty in the 1980's without an SL making a star appearance. The genius soft-top mechanism which folds down out of sight under a panel ahead of the boot lid gave the car a beautifully sleek, uncluttered appearance. The distinctive silver SL presented here boasts, arguably, the best suited engine of the marque, the straight six. With a capacity of 2800cc and coupled with the smooth automatic gearbox, it gives the car a lively 0 to 60mph performance coupled with a decent mpg especially on a run where these cars effortlessly eat up the miles and are best suited. The car was supplied new, with the factory hard-top, on the 18th October 1984 to a Mr. Whittaker - allegedly THE Roger Whittaker of whistling and guitar strumming fame. The subsequent owners have serviced the car regularly which is shown by the large amount of service history accompanying the car together with invoices and old MoT test certificates. The hand and service books are also present along with the V5 and current MoT test certificate. With five months road fund licence left to run, this lovely example can be driven away, subject to insurance, straight from the auction.
