The most significant technological upgrade on the E24 range took place in 1982 where after all models were constructed upon the more advanced E28 chassis, right through until production ceased in 1989. The M635CSi was the brainchild of BMW’s Motorsport department and arrived to the market in 1984. The engine was a development of the M1 supercar's 3453cc, 24-valve, six-cylinder unit producing 286bhp, the increased power necessitating chassis improvements which included altered weight distribution, revised suspension, larger brakes and a limited-slip differential. There was also a close-ratio, five-speed gearbox and a more luxurious interior while outwardly this ultimate 6-Series model was readily distinguishable by virtue of its 'M Technic' body kit. Performance was impressive with the M635CSi being capable of reaching 0-62mph in around six seconds on its way to a top speed in excess of 155mph. A mere 524 righthand drive examples of the M635CSi's were ever produced and this manual M635 is one of those very rare desirable examples. Number 126 of the UK-specification examples produced and presented in black with cream leather interior, this car has just four owners from new, two of which were husband and wife who retained the car for some 29 years. Over the past ten years, the car had predominantly been garaged and maintained, the previous owner had used it as his daily driver but when the garage was to be converted, this resulted in the car having to be sold. Lucky for the car, a good family friends had a son who was a BMW enthusiast, he happily purchased the car from Mr. Skarzynska without an MoT test certificateand spent time and money re-commissioning this example. Currently, this BMW is largely rust free and in good all round order. Some welding and remedial work was required and carried out correctly. Recent invoices in the history file show a diligent approach to any required work annually to ensure the car is roadworthy and in good condition. The history folder has many further invoices and MoT test certificates coupled with the current MoT test certificate until July 2018 and the V5 registration document.
