Beschreibung:

1985 RENAULT 5 TURBO 2 Chassis No. 361 White, blue and red with black interior. Engine: four cylinder, turbocharged pushrod, longitudinally mid mounted, 1397cc, approximately 200bhp in rally trim; Gearbox: five speed manual; Suspension: uprated independent all round; Brakes: ventilated 10.2 discs all round; Wheels: ribbed cast alloy 7x14 front, 9x14 rear; Left hand drive. Renault conceived it's mid-engined wide arched turbo to win rallies - which it did taking, amongst others, Jean Ragnotti to victory in the 1981 Monte Carlo. Largely styled by Heuliez, it superficially resembles the front-engined front-drive Renault 5 although very few outer panels are the same. The huge flared wings are glassfibre with distinctive air intakes behind the rear wheels. Under the skin it is very different: the Turbo/Turbo 2 has its power unit where the rear seat used to be. The engine is based on that of the Renault 5 Gordini, but is turbocharged to 160bhp in 'standard' trim. It drives the rear wheels through a rear-facing longitudinal gearbox with coil and wishbone rear suspension and large ventilated disc brakes all round. Prototypes first appeared in 1978 and production started in 1981. Although only 400 cars needed to be built for homologation purposes, the Renault 5 Turbo, and later the Turbo 2 made such enjoyable road cars that Renault's Alpine factory ended up building 1830 Turbos and 3167 Turbo 2s before production stopped in 1986. This rally-prepared car has a claimed power output of 200bhp, the engine having recently been rebuilt by the renowned tuning company Automeca in Annecy, France. It features forged pistons, a tuned cylinder head, a larger turbo and intercooler. The car retains much of its standard interior - but has been fitted with lightweight rally bucket seats, a full roll cage and harnesses, fire extinguisher and a Halda tripmaster. A full set of extra driving lights are available. The Turbo 2 is a much cheaper and more practical alternative to a Lancia Delta S4 or RS200 and does make a very rapid and exciting road/rally car; on a recent test drive it certainly went very well. It comes with Swiss registration papers.
