The Mercedes-Benz SL class has been manufactured since 1954. The designation SL derives from the German 'Sport Leicht' or 'Sport Light' and was first applied to the 300SL 'Gullwing,' named after the upward-opening doors. The term SL-Class refers to the marketing variations of the vehicle, including the numerous engine configurations spanning five design generations. The Mercedes-Benz R107 and C107 cars were produced from 1971 through to 1989, being the second longest single series ever produced by Mercedes-Benz after the G-Class. The R107 took the chassis components of the mid-size W114 model and mated them to the larger engines from the S-Class (W116) and has become a benchmark of quality throughout the years. With only 11,650 miles recorded, this 1986 example has to be perhaps the lowest mileage SL on the market today. As one would expect with such low miles, the condition of the car is described as being excellent in respect of the engine, interior, chassis and transmission. This original righthand drive example is finished in the desirable colour scheme of Smoke Silver metallic with a contrasting black hide interior and fitted with air conditioning. The factory hardtop is supplied offering comfortable all year round motoring. Included in the history file are two MoT test certificates, with the latest valid until 31st May 2017 and no advisories as well as a number of invoices. Very rare to find with such low mileage, this 500 SL presents a fantastic opportunity to buy a unique motorcar.
