The similarly styled but mechanically unrelated 190 followed in 1955 completing the first generation of cars. The second generation SL’s began with the 230 in 1963 and was distinguished by its lower waistline, big curved screens and a distinctive optional hardtop that earned the model its nickname of `Pagoda top'. The car featured a two-door monocoque bodyshell with independent suspension all round, coil springs and anti-roll bar at the front and semi-trailing arms, coil springs and anti-roll bar at the rear. The power assisted steering was Daimler-Benz's own re-circulating ball system. Over its seventeen year reign, the R107 range was powered by no less than eight different engines - two sizes of straight-six unit and six versions of V8’s. This delightful 300 SL was first registered on 5th June 1987 and presents very well in the colour combination of Petrol Blue with light grey leather interior. This is a very well looked after example with no fewer than 33 stamps in the service book. With a good specification including 15 hole alloy wheels, rear seat, headlamp wash wipe, power steering, electric windows and anti-lock brakes. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 12th February 2020, this immaculate Mercedes-Benz is a credit to the current and previous owners.
