1987 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL Roadster Lot Number 298 Registration S5UDY Chassis Number WDBBA48D1HA055632 Odometer reading 159,000 miles Estimate £15,000 - £20,000 Print details Send this to a friend 5 more images In 1986, Mercedes-Benz produced its most powerful SL of the decade to the U.S. in the 560 SL. The car was the heaviest of the 1971-1989 R107 SLs that Mercedes-Benz produced, but the new 5.5 litre, V8 engine with 227hp did a fine job of mitigating that fact. The top speed was much improved and the car was quicker from a standstill to 60mph by about four full seconds. The engine was much torquier too, which greatly improved the car's dynamics. Likewise, the car received a new rear suspension and a limited-slip differential to better handle the added torque and power. Mercedes-Benz also added anti-lock brakes, leather upholstery, an alarm system and an air bags, all of which better suited the car's $48,000 price tag. This particular example is presented in dark metallic grey paintwork with a grey leather interior as well as factory fitted air conditioning and the original factory hardtop. At the time of production this model was the most expensive in the SL range, offering plenty of power coupled with its smooth ride and leather interior, made it extremely versatile for motoring on the main roads as well as city use. These cars were favoured by the rich and famous, more particular to the dry States of the USA when it could be driven more frequently with the hood down. This car is in lovely condition and is reminiscent to those days of J R Ewing and Dallas of the 1980s.
