1988 Audi Coupé GT Lot Number 130 Registration E258 PMC Chassis Number WAUZZZ85ZJA002121 Engine Number KV041122 Odometer reading 83,528 miles Estimate No Reserve Result Sold - £3,584 Print details Send this to a friend Audi’s headquarters are in Bavaria and has been a wholly owned (99.55%) subsidiary of Volkswagen AG since 1966 following a phased purchase of its predecessor, Auto Union, from its former owner, Daimler-Benz. Volkswagen relaunched the Audi brand in 1965 and the company’s slogan or tagline is Vorsprung durch Technik , meaning ‘Progress through Technology’. The Audi image at this time was a conservative one, and so, a proposal from chassis engineer Jörg Bensinger was accepted to develop the four-wheel drive technology in Volkswagen's military vehicle for an Audi performance car and rally racing car. The performance car, introduced in 1980, was named the ‘Audi Quattro’, a turbocharged coupé which was also the first German large-scale production vehicle to feature permanent all-wheel drive through a centre differential. Prominent wins in rallying proved the viability of all-wheel drive racecars and the Audi name became associated with advances in automotive technology. Originally registered on 19 th May 1988, this Audi has only had three owners from new during its 29 years on British roads. The current vendor has owned her since June 2012 and has done little more than 3,000 miles in that time. However she has always been well maintained and kept in a dry warm garage. Showing no signs of corrosion, the fastidious vendor advises us the Quattro drives exceedingly well with no known faults. The five cylinder, 2226cc engine started immediately when requested and ran smoothly with no adverse rattles or noises; clearly this is a Quattro Coupé GT that has been very well cared for. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 3 rd May 2018 (no advisories); this Audi is offered for sale without reserve. * Interested parties should note this is a two wheel drive vehicle and not Quattro as previously advertised
