Beschreibung:

Introduced alongside the outwardly similar 380SL and SLC models at the Geneva Salon in March 1980, the 500SL roadster and 500SLC coupé featured the all-alloy 4,973cc overhead-camshaft V8 engine that had debuted in the 450SLC 5.0 of 1977. More powerful and less thirsty than the existing V8, the new 5.0-litre unit produced 240bhp at 5,000rpm, an output sufficient to propel the luxuriously equipped yet lightweight 500SL/SLC to 140mph. Although shorter in the wheelbase than the 450, the newcomer retained its predecessor's long-established and highly successful body style, which now featured spoilers at front and rear. The running gear too remained unchanged in essence, though improvements were made to the all-independent suspension and to the brakes. Four-speed automatic transmission was standard in these models, which were among the most desirable Grands Routiers of their day. This 500SL convertible was sold new via a dealer in Hamburg, Germany and subsequently exported to Japan, from whence it returned to Germany in 2006. Restored to original condition at the Mercedes-Benz Classic Centre in Stuttgart soon after its arrival, the car is described as in generally excellent condition, the transmission having been overhauled in 2010, four new shock absorbers fitted in 2011, and the bodywork and interior given a full Swisswax service. Finished in white with blue leather interior, this beautiful modern Mercedes currently displays a total of 65,000 kilometres on the odometer and is offered with sundry restoration/service invoices, Monegasque registration papers and Contrôle Technique. A Becker Mexico radio/satellite navigation system is the only notified deviation from factory specification.
